Through her organization Urban Zen, Donna Karan has connected with Haitian artisans to help preserve their artistry and assist in marketing it to the rest of the world. Pictured above are various accessories and goods in the Urban Zen collection made of tabacco leaves, wood, horn, recycled cardboard. You can explore and shop the collection now at ABC Home in NYC.
Every time I travel to Haiti I insist on making time to go shopping at the markets for paintings and artisan crafts. I’m always amazed at what I find as it clearly shows the brilliance and talent of the artisan who created the piece by hand. I mainly purchase accessories for my home like etched wooden boxes, statues made of beautiful dark wood, aluminum tumblers (my favorite for drinking my smoothies from) and of course breathtaking paintings. It seems like neighboring islands appreciate the work of Haitian artisans as well. When I travelled to Puerto Rico a couple years ago, I visited a shop filled with beautiful souvenirs made of wood splattered with Puerto Rico across them. I turned one souvenir upside down to check the price and right below are the words “Made in Haiti.” That explained why I was so intrigued by them. :)

Rachel Roy is set to launch her new line of designer footwear, Rachel Roy, this August just in time for the fall season. According to WWD, she cites Manolo Blahnik as an inspiration. Like Blanik she is “mixing materials and creating textured looks that incorporate wool, suede and water snake,” but her overall design aesthetic will be in her words, “classic with a twist.” The 30-style collection will feature flats, pumps, booties and boots ranging from just under $200 to $600. Can’t wait to see more!

While I will forever be deeply enamored with their Peppered Pony De-Manta Tote, I’m definitely feeling the updated version of the tote with the tiger print! Peep the clutch and dress too!
